Damru Pani & Aum

Damru Pani & Aum
*Dr Chaman Lal Raina
OM has been described in the Shiva Purana,in a very lucid manner. All the Vedic Bijaksharas start with OM/AUM. The Shiva Stotra says about ॐ कार as:

ॐ कारं बिन्दु संयुक्तंनित्यंध्यान्तियोगिनः।
ामदं मोक्षदं चैवओंकारंतंनमाम्यहं॥
om kāraṁ bindu saṁyuktaṁ nityaṁ dhyānti yoginaḥ|
kāmadaṁ mokṣadaṁ caiva oṁkāraṁ taṁ namāmyahaṁ||

Explanation:

The vibration OM/AUM is filled/linked/associated with Bindu--the Primal dot,the source of all energy. This Shabda--vibration/sound is being meditated upon by the Yogis. Omkaara gives all that, what is being desired or needed by the devotees. Above all, it bestows upon the highest grace, which is known as Moksha--the final liberation.

About OM

In the Vedic literature Om is written as ओ३म्, Om also written as AUM in the Roman characters. In the Devanagri "Om" is written as ओं --ॐ . Om is verily, the symbol of the Absolute--the impersonal Brahman of the Upanishads. It is revered as Ishwara in the Vedas. Shri Krishna in the Bhagwadgita calls it as Om iti Ekaksharam Brahma.

The Mandukya Upanishad declares: "Om is the one eternal syllable of which all that exists is but the cosmic evolution . All the attributes to the Eternal Time--the past, present, and future are all included in this One sound vibration, and all that exists beyond the three forms of time is also implied in it".
Om is what is
ऐं--aiin the Shakti Agamas.

At the cessation/culmination of His Cosmic Dance,
Shiva---- the Lord of Eternal Dance,
with a view to bless the sages Sanaka and others,
played with His "Damaru" fourteen times,
thus vibrating fourteen Sutras,
for the universal Vimarsha/deliberation purposes
in the cosmic net of the Shiva Sutras.

The above shloka is a prologue of the Maheshwara Sutra, also revered as the Shiva Sutra, where DAMRU beats are of the highest significance. Creating the vibrations, originating from the source OM, is the essence of all the Sanatana Dharma Shastras.

Om is itself the very Shabda Sharira/sound body of Shiva. The scriptures say:The 'Naada" is the creation of Lord Shiva as the Nataraja. It is the
इच्छा शक्ति/IcCha Shakti of Shivato have the cosmic vibrations flow in the universal consciousness for maintaining harmony in all the manifestation, which is Prakriti. During his cosmic dance, he created the 'Nine beats', while lifting the one leg and then 'Five beats'  lifting the other leg for maintaining the the universal pulsation in harmony. Nine and five is equal to fourteen, and these happen to be the 14v Sutras of the Vedic literature . These Fourteen Sutras are as under:

Damru is a drum, which is always seen in the hands of Shiva, while doing the Tandava. The damaru is used by musicians, due to its small portable size. Shiva is adored as the Damru PaaNi, as well.

The Amarkosha says about Damaru :

वाद्यप्रबेदा डमरुमड् डुडिणि डमझर्झराः
vvādyaprabedā ḍamarumaḍ ḍuḍiṇi ḍama jharjharāḥ

डमरु की डमक्क् धुन धनक ध्वनि सदैव आपकेभीतर
