Cultural and Religious Importance:
Leftover tschochi vor from prashad is used for making dranna. Usually drannas are made on the day of Teela Aattuam/first Ashatmai after Shivaratri. Traditionally tschochi vor is made on the day of Shivaratri, and on doon Amavas for puja

Dranna can be also made with rice bread anytime as a snack.


Serving size: 2 to 3people

Ingredients:
  • 4- 5 leftover tschochi vor or rice bread.
  • Pinch of red chili
  • Salt to taste
  • 2-3 tsp. of oil

Method:

  • Cut tschochi vor/ rice bread into small pieces.
  • Heat two oil in pan/kadai and add small pieces of bread and sauté until crispy.
  • Turn off burner.
  • Mix salt and pinch of red chili powder to crispy rice bread crumbs in a bowl.

My Mom used to prepare it for me not only with rice roti but normaal phulka also and I used to relish it. I never knew that it was called draana. Thanks for shairing this information

Dear Rekha ji, thanks for your comment and sharing your recipe of dranna. Yes, you are right when you say that first rice roti is made and then pieces are fried. Well, Tschochavor is also rice roti but small in size. Koishursaal book has given recipe of, how to make first rice roti and then fry the pieces. Adding walnuts and chili powder is matter of personal taste. Anyway, thanks for raising this point, which now I have made clear.

drana is not made by frying chochvur but by making a dough of rice flour.walnuts,zeera,salt and chilli pwder and these r mixed and made into rotis and then cut and it these cut pieces that r fried
